Agenda for the grain conference
Our Metals
and CTN Centre invites you to attend 5th "Grain Export From Russia & CIS" conference on Tuesday-Wednesday, 9-10 August 2011 in Vertol Hotel, Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
The ban for grain export from Russia has now been cancelled.
From 1 July 2011 Russia has returned to the global market and resume wheat export.
What has changed in Russian and global markets during this period?
Which exporters survived and what new sellers appeared?
What they can offer today and at what price?
Our international conference provides a unique opportunity to meet Russian exporters directly, to discuss their offers, and to learn about the situation in the regional market.
What's the significance of Russia's export ban?
Russia is traditionally the world’s fourth-largest wheat exporter.
The export ban pushed wheat prices up sharply and forced importers in the Middle East and north Africa, the biggest buyers, to seek emergency supplies in Europe and the US.
Wheat availability
Russia has about 4 million tons of wheat available for export in the south of the country.
The resumption of exports may drive international wheat prices 5 percent to 7 percent lower, while boosting domestic prices 15 percent to 20 percent.
Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych said in an interview May 24 he would lift export quotas because of forecasts for a 15 percent increase in the harvest.
Ukraine, once the world’s biggest barley exporter, set export quotas on corn, wheat and barley in October after drought ruined crops.
Increasing Russian and Ukrainian supply will help compensate for anticipated declines elsewhere.
Russia could export up to 20m tonnes of grain, if the harvest reaches its potential of 85m-90m tonnes.
Please check our preliminary conference programme for topics that will be covered at the event.
On the agenda:
- Current situation in grain market of Russia and other exporting countries.
- Prices: overview and forecast.
- Consequences of grain export ban in Russia for Russian exporters: Who has survived?
- Influence of grain export ban in Russia for global grain market: rearrangement of resources in global market.

Ramadan
The organizers are aware that August is Ramadan time in Muslim countries.
We understand and respect this tradition.
However, August is the most appropriate time for the sellers and buyers' meeting.
Harvesting in the southern regions of Russia will be finished by that time.
The ban for wheat export from Russia has now been cancelled on 1 July.
The conference agenda will be business without any entertainment events.
We very much hope that the event will be beneficial for all participants.
